Hazel Mae BurksApril 28, 1930 ~ February 16, 2017 (age 86)
Hazel Mae Burks, 86 of Malvern, Arkansas passed peacefully February 16, 2017 at Encore Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center-Malvern. Mrs. Burks was born April 28, 1930 to the late Helen Daily. She was an active member of Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church and Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Mrs. Burks later moved her membership to First Baptist Church-Vine Street under Noble B. Russey where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Usher Board until her health started to decline. She worked as a cook in the city of Malvern for different restaurants especially the "Magnolia Cafe" , a dietary cook at Still Meadows Nursing Home now Arbor Oaks Nursing Home, Senior Adult Center and was a foster grandparent at the Headstart Program. Mrs. Burks enjoyed singing at the Dailey-House Reunion and baking her famous "Egg Pies" which were always sought after. She enjoyed listening to B.B King and watching sports; especially baseball and basketball. Most importantly she loved the Lord,her children, her pastor and her home. She would always tell her children when they would ask her to move or come to Texas " I'm going to be like the old mouse; I'm going to stay at my own house" and she did that until she was not able to anymore.
Mrs. Burks was preceded in death by her mother Miss Helen Dailey, husband Mr. Harry W. Burks of 32 years, brother Howard "Bo" Dailey, sister Elizabeth "Bess" Hall, daughter Linda Faye Harrison-Matlock, and her son Harry James A. Burks.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children Martha V. Burks, Loretta Watson, Michael A. Burks, Timothy F. Burks all of Dallas, Texas, Avon (Bart) Smith, Bridgett R. (Terry) Johnson both of Malvern, Arkansas and Robin (Scott) Ollison of Carrollton, Texas, 20 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren her sister Irma Jean Craig of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a host of nieces and nephews.
