Gennie Mae Lewis

January 13, 1949 ~ October 17, 2019 (age 70)

Obituary

Gennie Mae Lewis was born January 13, 1949 to the late George Lewis and Carrie Lewis in Hamburg, Arkansas.  Gennie was a fun loving yet meek person with a smile that would brighten any darken path.

Gennie accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Hamburg, Arkansas.   She was educated in the Ashley County School District until desegregation took place, after that, she attended and graduated from the Hamburg School District.

Gennie later relocated to Little Rock and attended the New Tyler Barber College.  She was a barber for over thirty years.  She was a master barber stylist and was known around the city.  Her work, character and professionalism set the standards high for the barber community.  She took pride in her work and made sure her clients were satisfied.  She also worked in environmental services.  Genie had zeal for plants, family and life!

Geenie took on her favorite role next to being a servant in 1983, when she became Mom to her one and only daughter.  Shundreka L Lewis was her pride and joy!   You could not have a conversation with Ms. Gennie without her mentioning “Latoia”.  The two of them were like Thelma and Louise, if you were around the two of them long enough, you were sure to laugh.  As her health failed, and the roles reversed,  they became inseparable.  Gennie pressed on in spite of her many health challenges to make sure Latoia was taken care of.  When she received word that she was expecting grandchild, she girded up some new battle clothes and continued to fight the fight until the other day when she was at peace and heard the call of our Lord and Savior.

Geenie was an avid sports fan!   She loved basketball; her favorite player was Kevin Garnett.  She had a love for her hometown hero, Scottie Pippen as well.  When time allowed, Gennie loved going to the Casino, it was one of her favorite past times.

Gennie worked until her health failed in 2011.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in North Little Rock under the leadership of Pastor William L. Robinson.  She loved going to church and loved her church.  She was quick to invite you to church.

Geenie was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters:  Margie Allen and Janice Ward.

Geenie leaves to cherish her memories yet mourn her passing one daughter; Shundreka L. Lewis and her precious granddaughter; Maceyn Jordan Nathan, one grand god-son; Tyrelle Grant, Brothers:  George Lewis, Jr. (Pinkie) of Callaway, Ca.,  Aaron Lewis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sisters:  Minister Gloria Lewis Dupar  of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Glenda McCure of Little Rock, Arkansas and a host of nieces and nephews.

Revelation 21:4 "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the order of things has passed away"
