Obituary

Betty Jean Brown, known as Betty Bea, 79 of Bryant, Arkansas formerly of Eudora, Arkansas was called from labor to reward on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was surrounded in peace by her niece, Cynthia Stanford; nephews, Tracy R. Spencer and John Thomas Alexander, Jr.; sister, Delorise Aikens; and Gwendolynn Spencer. Betty Brown was born July 10, 1944 in Eudora, Arkansas and more specifically near Grand Lake of Readland, Arkansas to John and Willie Bea Aikens who preceded her in death. She was the fifth of ten children raised on Grand Lake. Betty went to Eudora High School and completed up to the 10th grade. In or about the year of 1968, Betty was united in holy matrimony to Horace Brown of Readland. There were no birth children born of this union. However, Horace was the father of several children to include Betty Brown (known as Lil' Betty), Horace Brown, Jr., Carrie Brown, and Amy Dell Brown. Betty always would say that Horace was a great provider and that he took care of her. She was a homemaker and supported her husband by doing work as a housekeeper. Betty committed her life to God our creator by way of Jesus Christ at an early age; and continued her faith until her last breath. She was a member of the King James Missionary Baptist Church in Readland, Arkansas before her changes in her physical health took place in 2004. While a member at King James Missionary Baptist Church, Betty loved singing and praising in the church choir with her fellow choir members. Betty enjoyed listening to gospel music as well as the Blues. She enjoyed card games and TV guides crossword puzzles and soap-operas as well as enjoyed the visiting the casino from time-to-time. Betty presented as a feisty and storm-like character at times. Other times, Betty kept to herself. Betty was well known for joking that seemingly took a serious tone but often she was trying to be playful as she liked to make people laugh at the things she would say. Betty was very vocal, as many of the Aikens women were; and she stood firm on her opinions of a matter without any hesitation. She lived up to her straightforward and brash nature until her last day on earth while being in the hospital. Betty lived in Readland until her life was impacted by a stroke in 2004. Betty struggled in the beginning with dealing with her stroke and later made peace with her new physical condition. She primarily was cared for by her sister, Gloria Jean Alexander; brother, John Aikens, Jr. and sister-in-law, Janie Aikens while residing at the Lake Village Rehabilitation and Care Center in Lake Village, Arkansas. Betty later would change to The Blossoms at Hot Springs Rehab & Nursing Center (formerly Heritage of Hot Springs nursing facility) in Hot Springs, Arkansas until an opportunity opened at the Evergreen Living Center at Stagecoach in Bryant, Arkansas so that she would be closer to family. Betty loved her family very much; and was always over-joyed in seeing her brothers, sisters, and her nieces and nephews whenever the chance presented itself.
