Obituary

Betty Jo was born on July 23, 1953, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. McCoy. Born the 7th of 9 children, she was positioned for greatness, evidenced by her numerous talents, which shone throughout her life. Reared in a faith-filled home, Betty learned early the power of prayer, the value of hard work, and the joy of caring for others. It was no surprise that Betty basked in God's favor and confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Gospel Lighthouse Church in Little Rock, where she served for many years. Like Paul, she understood God's call and lived with the confidence that all things worked together for good. Her faith anchored, sustained, and guided her every step. Betty graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1971. Continuing her education at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. There, she earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1975. With determination and faith as her compass, she moved to Texas, where she began a career at Dresser Industries as a Material Selection Specialist, a position she held with pride and integrity. For three decades, she would make Houston home, building a life rich in community and purpose. But her heart was never far from home; she returned to Little Rock to be closer to her beloved family. Betty briefly served in the Independent School District. She later worked at the Harris County Courthouse, where she remained until her retirement. Betty's creativity was multifaceted; the most prominent were the seamstress, songstress, and baker. She didn't just practice these crafts; she shared them generously. Her melodious voice could comfort the weary and lift souls; her baking, oh, her baking was a ministry of its own. Cakes and pies made with love found their way into countless homes and hearts. After retirement, she turned her passion into a business, sharing her sweet creations with compassion. Betty's laugh was contagious, her smile radiant, and her favorite phrase, "LORD, Have Mercy," was a prayer and a reflection of her humility. Though she never had children, Betty became a surrogate Mother to her nieces and nephews. She offered a steady hand and a listening ear. Betty's loving presence and support were unwavering. Her contributions were immeasurable, and we are forever grateful for her presence. Her legacy continues: in the recipes she left behind, the garments she tailored with care, and the countless hearts she touched. Betty lived a pleasing life unto the Lord, and her memory is etched in the hearts of all who loved her. With sorrowful spirits, we celebrate our beloved Sister Betty McCoy, who peacefully entered eternal rest on May 1, 2025, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her earthly journey was one of grace, strength, and loving devotion to us all. Betty answered her Savior's call and entered into eternal rest. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." [Matthew 25:21] She now rejoices with those who went before her: Thomas C. McCoy and Sally R. McCoy, siblings Patricia Scarborough, Carolyn Betton, James Richard McCoy, Thomas Charles McCoy, and Timothy McCoy. She leaves behind to carry her light: Siblings Clifford Reginald (Velma) McCoy, Marilyn Norwood, and Debbie McCoy, all of Little Rock, AR; sister-in-laws Addie McCoy and Dorothy McCoy, both of Little Rock, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and lifelong friends, blessed by her grace, laughter, wisdom, and unwavering faith. While we mourn this tremendous loss, we are comforted by the memories we share and the love she gave. Remember By Christina Rossetti Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.
