On February 24th 1951 in Carthage, Arkansas, the first-born child of Mr. Walter Lee Hawkins Sr. and Pearlie Goodloe Hawkins was born. They named her Mona Lee. At an early age Mona demonstrated her strong desire for learning and excellence. As a young adult, she was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church, Carthage Arkansas. She was an active member in the church until she relocated to further her education after graduating from Carthage Public Schools in 1969. Mona went on to continue her education graduating in 1973 from AM&N college now known as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where she majored in Clothing, Textiles and Related Arts. While in college she met and married Morris Mitchell. To this union four children were born. In 1992 Morris and Mona relocated their family from Little Rock, Arkansas to Atlanta, Georgia. Mona was a dedicated employee of the Social Security Administration for over 30 years. Mona loved fashion and design which showed in her many custom creations she sewed for herself, her family and friends affectionately known as a "Mona's Original." Mona was proceeded in death by her aforementioned parents and husband. Those left to continue her legacy include her children--Ishanda Johnson (Myron), Kaidesha Clay (Derek), Maurio Mitchell (Krystle), and Marco Mitchell all of Atlanta, GA; siblings-- Laverne Hawkins Jones of Malvern, AR and Bishop Walter Hawkins Jr. (Annette) of Fordyce, AR; six grandchildren--Alexis Johnson, JaVaughn (JT) Johnson, Jayla Johnson, Krissette Mitchell, Dalyn Green, and Karter Mitchell; great granddaughter—Zaria Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; god family—The Hunters, and many extended relatives and friends who will continue to cherish her memory. Our hearts and our lives are different from simply knowing her and we will miss her presence, but most all her vibrant spirit. If Roses Grow in Heaven If Roses grow in Heaven Lord, please pick a bunch for me. Place them in my Mother's arms and tell her they're from me. Tell her that I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile, place a kiss upon her cheek and hold her for a while. Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day, but there's an ache within my heart that will never go away. – Unknown Author Preferred Florist: Mary & Martha's Florist & Gifts (870) 246-2446 Samuel L.
