Obituary

Odelia Loretta Moore Lock was born on January 20, 1932, in Carthage, Arkansas, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar and Eliza Rebecca Moore. On May 9, 2024, at Chi St. Vincent Hospital, she was called home to be with her Heavenly Father. At an early age, she united with First Missionary Baptist Church of Carthage, and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was educated at Carthage Colored School in Carthage. She was married to the late Henry Taylor, Jr., of Carthage. She later moved to Malvern, Arkansas, and married J. C. Lock. Odelia loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and the greats. She also enjoyed fishing and cooking. She was an excellent cook. She also loved the outdoors and was an avid flower gardner—beautiful flowers on her porch and in her yard. Even with a house full of children, she kept an immaculate house. She loved God and her church. She received a Certificate of Gold Star Membership in Recognition of over fifty years of service from Greater New Hope Baptist Church. Odelia was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Lock; parents, Oscar and Eliza Rebecca Moore; children, J. C. Lock, Jr., Patricia Jones, Benny Ray Taylor, and Shirley J. Johnson; granddaughters, Yolanda Shea Jones, Quinas Yvette Smith, and Angel Clayton; great-great granddaughters, Ava Livingston and Aalure Burns; siblings, Henrietta Moore, Thomas Archie Moore, Raymond Moore, Trudie Verline Johnson, and Nannie Pattillo. She leaves to cherish her memories: six daughters, Annie R. Taylor-Shaw of Greenbelt, Maryland, Jo Ann Dickerson and Lavern Burns, both of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Linda (Tommy) Bryant of Malvern, Arkansas, Jacqulyn (Timothy) Pearson of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Tammy (Ricky) Williams of Lawton, Oklahoma; first grandson whom she raised, Kent B. Smith of Tacoma, Washington; twenty-nine grandchildren; seventy-nine great-grandchildren; thirty-five great-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special cousins, Cal Ray Smith, Albert Ciccel, Jr., Reverend Henry Mitchell and Lemuel Sloan; brother in-law, Clarence Lock; sisters-in-law, Dice Lock and Nancy Moore; bonus daughters, Ruby Jewel Langston, Myrtle Smith, Rebecca Grant, and Joyce Johnson; bonus granddaughters, LaShunna Boatman, and Candice Jones; special friends, Jo Ann Harris, Bonnett Smith, Creta Mae Vaden, Betty Johnson, Robbia Lea, Bobby Moore, Patricia Ivory, and Delores Doby. Odelia was a very compassionate and caring person, and as such, she touched many lives. We Had a Wonderful Mother We had a wonderful mother, One who never really grew old; Her smile was made of sunshine, And her heart was solid gold; Her eyes were as bright as shining stars, And in her cheeks fair roses you see. We had a wonderful mother, And that's the way it will always be. But take heed, because She's still keeping an eye on all of us, So let's make sure She will like what she sees. UNK~ Samuel L.
