IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Victor D
Nolen
August 2, 1963 – February 15, 2026
Victor Donell Nolen, son of the late Carol Ann Hunter and Clayburn McCauley, was born into his earthly home on August 2, 1963, in Malvern, Arkansas. He was lovingly raised by Coty Lee Hunter, who served as a devoted father figure and guiding presence in his life.
In 1980, Victor moved to Chicago for is senior year of high school and made it home. He attended Whiteney M. Young Magnet High School and graduated in 1981. Chicago became the place where he planted roots, built legacy, and remained for the rest of his life.
After settling in Chicago, Victor became an active and faithful member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and sang in the men's choir. His faith was not merely spoken, but demonstrated through service, leadership, and commitment to his church family.
On December 24, 1982, Victor proudly pledges Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. through the Kappa Phi Chapter, alongside his right-hand cousin, Rodrick. He embraced the fraternity's principles of Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor and carried the values of brotherhood, service, and excellence throughout his life.
Professionally, Victor worked in the accounting department of several banks, sharpening his expertise and discipline before stepping fully into entrepreneurship. In 1995, he established his own income tax business, which expanded into multiple locations through the years of consistency, dedication, and trusted service. For approximately 30 years, he faithfully served individuals and families, building not only a business but a respected legacy.
Very old school in his approach, Victor taught tax classes beginning with pen and paper, firmly believing no one should ever use the excuse that "the computer is down." He would simply pull out a ledger and get to working with those hands. His resourcefulness, precision, and strong work ethic earned him the trust and admiration of many.
Victor lived boldly and unapologetically full of energy. Known as the life of the party, he had a charisma that could light up any room. He loved the color red, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and dancing whenever music filled the air. If a beat dropped, Victor was moving. If the grill was fired up, he was in his element, a bond he shared with his only son with their cook offs. His barbecue was legendary among family and friends, and his frugality reflected wisdom, discipline, and a desire to build lasting foundations for those he loved.
Victor was richly blessed to live 62 years. He passed peacefully and comfortably. Because love is far greater than death, his love will continue to live in the hearts of his loving brother Billy (Camilla) Hunter; step brother John (Lisa) Hunter; sisters Carmelita Hunter, Zandra (Greg) Steward; Raised as his sister Brontie "Nolen" Richardson; daughter DeMeshia (Eric) King; son Desmond (Jameelah) Nolen; daughter Kamya Nolen; grandchildren Jayla King, Desmond Nolen Jr. (DJ), Ava King and Zuri Nolen; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, fraternity brothers, church family and dear friends.
Though he has transitioned from this earthly life, his laughter, his lessons, his rhythm, and his love will continue to echo through every life he touched.
"Drinking from the waters of sorrow sustains a different kind of life. This river is hidden from the rest of the world. Tears drip off my chin into an endless flow of liquid love that sparkles with beauty."
