IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Henry
Reed
December 7, 1934 – November 12, 2023
William Henry Reed Sr., a revered member of the Malvern community and a cherished family man, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, service, and love. Born on December 7, 1934, in Malvern, AR, to the late Henry Warren Reed and Bobella Bulford, William's journey began in a world far different from the one he helped shape.
His early education at AA Wilson High School laid the foundation for a life marked by resilience and commitment. William's strength of character was further honed during his honorable service in the United States Army and Korean War, a testament to his patriotism and courage.
On June 19, 1957, a day celebrated as Juneteenth symbolizing freedom and new beginnings, William married his beloved Dorothy Mae Phifer. Together, they embarked on a life filled with love and purpose, nurturing a family of seven children. Their union, spanning over six decades, was a beacon of enduring love and partnership.
A man of faith, William was a pillar in the First Baptist Church at 220 Vine Street, Malvern, AR. His roles as Treasurer, Trustee, long-term Chairman of the Board of Trustees and various other positions reflected his unwavering commitment to his community and his deep-rooted belief in service.
William's passions extended beyond the walls of the church and his home. An avid gardener and fisherman, he found joy in the simplicity of nature. His love for jazz was not just a hobby but a way to connect with the world in a harmonious rhythm. But above all, his greatest joy came from the moments spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nurturing them with the same love and wisdom that had guided his own life.
William's journey was not without loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joe Reed, his son Jeffery Allen Reed Sr., and his grandsons William Ronald Reed and Jeffery Reed. Yet, even in grief, his strength and grace shone through, teaching those around him the power of resilience.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Dorothy Mae Reed. His legacy continues through his children – sons: William Jr. and Whitney of Malvern, AR; Randall of Little Rock, AR; and daughters Audrey, Michelle, and Rochelle, all of Malvern, AR. His memory will also be cherished by his 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and his nephew, each carrying a part of his spirit and teachings.
William Henry Reed Sr.'s life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and service. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
If I should go tomorrow
If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don't you ever cry.
The love that's deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.
