Michael Harris Thomas was born on June 20, 1953 to Mary Annette Thomas and William Harris in Memphis, TN. He was the oldest child of 4 children, born to Mary Annette Thomas. He attended and graduated from Tech High School in Memphis, TN. He began his career at an early age at Illinois Central Railroad in Memphis, TN. He later relocated to Union Pacific Railroad in North Little Rock, AR where he later retired.
He joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life Rebecca Moragne Moreland on September 7, 1997. He united with First Baptist Church of NLR under the leadership of Rev. William L. Robinson on the very same day. He served faithfully on the Usher Board, Obadiah’s Kitchen, Male Chorus, and on the Trustee Board.
He always greeted everyone with a smile. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who treated everyone with respect.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Anette Thomas, father Willie Harris, and sister Juanita Hale.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Rebecca Thomas, daughter Regina Thomas Drain of Memphis, TN, stepdaughter Bernita Moreland, and stepson Ever Lamont Moreland, both of NLR, AR. Two brothers Steven Hale of Memphis, TN and Reginald Hale (Stephanie), of Olive Branch, MS. Three sisters Diane Martin (Leon) of Memphis, TN. Stephanie Bonds of Germantown, TN, and Phyllis Parker (Wade) of Coffeeville, MS. Five grandchildren Brandi, Brittney, Brianna, Autumn, and Colby. Four great grandchildren, Kayleigh, C’Niyah, Gianna, and Giselle. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
